Jared W. Whaley

He has extensive trial experience, including as first chair trial counsel in dozens of high stakes jury trials. He has also represented foreign and domestic businessmen in criminal investigations involving money laundering, bribery, fraud, as well as parallel civil proceedings. Jared is co-chair of the firm’s Criminal Investigation and Trial Practice Group. Jared practices in both Florida and New Jersey and has represented individuals and businesses in diverse complex matters around the country. He has been a member of the firm since 2018.

Though all cases vary and none is predictive, Jared’s recent experience includes:

  • Won multimillion dollar jury verdict, including a significant punitive damages award, in federal trade secret misappropriation case.
  • Through investigation, depositions, and motion practice, obtained complete dismissal, on the eve of trial, of high-profile conspiracy, money laundering, and bribery case brought against a registered lobbyist. The government’s memorandum explaining the dismissal noted that the credibility of its key witnesses had been “undermined” in depositions, which “revealed significant weaknesses in the case.”
  • Won dismissal of dozens of state and federal lawsuits brought by serial Florida Fair Housing Act filer, culminating in a sanctions order against the plaintiff, on behalf of property management companies and real estate developers.
  • Obtained complete defense verdict at jury trial seeking seven figures in damages under Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practice Act.
  • Obtained full acquittal in jury trial for double attempted homicide prosecution based on eyewitness, DNA, and cell-phone location evidence.
