David A. Freedman

David Freedman enjoys an excellent reputation for creating winning strategies for resolving complex real estate transactions, partnership disputes, financial structures and transactions, among other commercial sectors. He is often called upon to evaluate, litigate and try complex transactions and he excels at distilling and presenting them in cogent and understandable laymen’s terms.  His unique ability to succinctly explain complex structures enables him to persuasively shape and favorably decide the outcome of the dispute. David is a dedicated and highly experienced advocate who manages the important details extremely well and is a passionate advocate for his clients.

Though all cases vary and none is predictive, David’s recent experience includes:

  • Represented major landowner in successful litigation to remove onerous zoning restrictions imposed by local government.
  • Created an amendment to the Federal Reserve Act and moved bill through Congress to achieve multimillion dollar settlement with FDIC as receiver for a failed bank.
  • Achieved class action settlement in litigation with major investment firm over deceptive cattle herd tax shelter.
  • Obtained $7 million judgment against municipality for discriminatory zoning actions.
  • Successfully represented corporate directors who were sued for $15 million in the Complex Litigation Division, obtaining summary judgment.
  • Successfully prosecuted claim by secured lender against another lender to establish priority to millions in proceeds of collateral; successfully defended the judgment in appeal to the federal 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Obtained seven figure verdict against major securities firm for ADA violation against disabled employee stock broker and obtained affirmance on appeal.
  • Achieved $10 million settlement for an heir in a disputed will contest.
  • Successfully represented corporate officer named as a defendant in multi-million dollar suit instituted by the Venezuelan equivalent of the FDIC in a failure of a major bank and sale of an oil drilling operation on Lake Maracaibo.
  • Legal team member which established two major resource recovery plants (Waste-to-energy) in Broward County, involving land use approvals, power plant siting approvals, municipal interlocal agreements to support repayment of tax-free bonds; and bond validation proceedings.
  • Freedman served on the City’s Historical and Environmental Preservation Board, as well as on the Homeland Defense Bond Oversight Board.
  • Freedman serves as a Director of the Overseas University of Medicine.
