Former Assistant United States Attorney Chris Cheek Joins Coffey Burlington in Miami
Coffey Burlington is pleased to announce that Chris Cheek, a former Assistant United States Attorney, has joined the firm in its litigation group.
Mr. Cheek focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, internal and government investigations, and regulatory compliance matters. During his tenure at the U.S. Department of Justice, he directed numerous high-stakes fraud investigations involving federal programs administered by agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DOD), and United States Coast Guard (USCG).
His experience includes prosecuting violations of the False Claims Act (FCA), Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), and Stark Law involving managed care organizations, hospitals, laboratories, and other healthcare entities, as well as non-healthcare organizations such as telecom companies, military contractors, grant recipients, and universities.
In addition to leading investigations, Mr. Cheek represented federal agencies and employees in litigation involving disaster relief, law enforcement, food policy, and public lands. He has also conducted internal investigations, including those involving workplace harassment.
Before his government service, Mr. Cheek practiced commercial litigation in the Miami office of a national law firm, handling matters in both state and federal courts.
